I’ve been a planner for a long time which means I’ve experienced tons of trends and changes in the wedding industry, but I have to say one of the biggest changes that I’ve seen has to be the Bachelorette Party.

Years ago, Bachelorette parties were almost considered “personal showers” with a small group of close friends who may gift the bride with some risque lingerie for the wedding night.

Over the years, this small, intimate gathering, usually held at someone’s house, became a little more of a party as brides and their friends began hosting bachelorette parties out on the town at local bars and restaurants.

And somewhere along the line, these nights out on the town became an overnight at a local hotel, which became a weekend away, and today, we have bachelorette parties that are a full blown vacation at a tropical destination.

While I’m all for a nice vacation for the bride and her friends, it seems like the idea of having a smaller, local bachelorette party may have gotten lost along the way.

If we’re thinking logically for a second, weddings are expensive, but it’s not just expensive for the engaged couple. It’s also very expensive to BE IN a wedding.

Yes, your friends love you, and they want to stand up with you on your big day, but the average cost of being a bridesmaid is between $1200 and $1800.

To be in your wedding, your bridesmaids are already spending money on:

  • Bridesmaids Dress

  • Bridesmaids Shoes

  • Wedding day Jewelry

  • Wedding day hair, makeup

  • Wedding day Manicure and pedicure

  • Shower gift

  • Wedding gift

  • Probably an engagement gift

  • Additional expenses my incur depending on location: Hotel stay for wedding weekend, gas or flight, expenses to attend wedding

That’s your bridesmaids’ expense without a Bachelorette Party tacked on to the cost.

And to be honest, there’s no need to spend thousands of dollars on a destination bachelorette party when there are tons of fun options right in northeast Ohio that won’t break your bank, or your bridesmaids’.

Resort/Spa Options for your Bachelorette Party

Gervasi Vineyard Resort and Spa

Ok so this isn’t technically in Cleveland, but it’s still northeast Ohio. And I couldn’t leave it out because it’s SO GORGEOUS.

This is your spot if you’re looking for a low key day, evening, overnight, or weekend getaway that takes you and your friends from Cleveland to Tuscany in just a short drive. You can eat at one of their many restaurants, drink their local wine, enjoy the beautiful property, and be pampered in their new spa coming this spring.

Walden

Found in quaint Aurora, Ohio just outside of Cleveland, Walden is home to 3 restaurant options, a gorgeous spa, beautiful accommodations for an overnight stay, and more. Whether you want to spend the day and evening or stay the night, your experience at Walden will be the perfect way to unwind with your girls during the day and experience an upscale environment for food and drinks at night.

An Evening of Fun

Stir Studio Kitchen

Stir Studios 3 locations and in-home party options are a great way to spend the evening with your friends. Enjoy learning a fun, new recipe and cooking up a storm while having a great time with your friends.

Progressive Dinner

If you’re a big foodie who loves the Cleveland Restaurant scene, this is a great option for you. Create a progressive dinner style evening. Start with drinks and appetizers at the first location before enjoying your entree at another delicious restaurant, and cap the meal off with dessert somewhere fun. End the night at a casino, local bars, or head home to sleep it off.

Pro tip: Rent a limo bus to drive everyone from one location to the next so you can all enjoy the night.

Daytime Bachelorette Party Ideas

Cedar Point

If you’re more of a thrill seeker and can’t stand the idea of sitting somewhere for hours eating a meal, there’s no rules. It’s your bachelorette party. Have a fun day at Cedar Point with your friends.

Charter a Boat or Yacht

You read that right. You don’t need to go to a tropical location to enjoy the boat life. I’ve planned yacht parties right here in Cleveland. Of course, your bachelorette party will need to be during the summer to enjoy this part of Cleveland’s hidden luxuries. Whether you want to cruise over to dinner in downtown Cleveland or spend the day tanning and swimming with friends, there are options available to suit your every need.

Weekend Getaway on Lake Erie

Put-in-Bay

Put-in-Bay provides a local spot to enjoy beaches, bars, and booze for lack of a better description. While they have made a recent attempt to change the “party place” reputation surrounding the island, Put-in-Bay is a great place to go if you’re looking to spend the weekend and have a good time.

Geneva on the Lake

Geneva on the Lake provides tons of options for a weekend getaway. Whether you’re looking to stay at a new lodge or rent a beach house on the water with your friends, you can visit local wineries, or lay on the beach. No matter what, you won’t be short on fun things to do for your bachelorette weekend.

Geneva on the Lake is home to great local vineyards that offer a glimpse of Napa Valley life right here in Northeast Ohio for way less cost.

Kelleys Island

Kelleys Island is another great option for more low key island experience. With the state park available, you can choose a camping experience with your friends. If camping isn’t for you, you can rent a cottage, a house, or stay at a bed and breakfast.

Whether you want to lounge around on the beach, go for a hike, go wine tasting, scuba dive, or rent a boat, you’ll never be bored at Kelleys Island.

The bottom line is, you don’t have to leave northeast Ohio to have an amazing Bachelorette party.

If you’re looking to plan an amazing Bachelorette party, but need some help, I plan killer bachelorettes with no detail spared. Don’t hesitate to reach out.
